Doctor, a former Buffalo Bills fullback, had been charged with a felony violation of the federal Clean Air Act after federal environmental authorities raided his asbestos removal company’s office April 19 and found a significant amount of asbestos that had not been secured, labeled or disposed of properly.

Due to the highly toxic nature of asbestos, state and federal regulations impose strict requirements on how to safely remove, store and dispose of the material.
“These regulations may be burdensome and difficult for asbestos-removal contractors to follow, but there’s a very important reason why these rules are so strict – asbestos is a serious public health hazard,” Belluck said.
“When those removing asbestos fail to recognize that hazard, or else they act without any regard for it, they need to face the full extent of criminal punishment,” he said. “They also need to make sure that the victims of their carelessness are fairly compensated for their damages.”
